Halloween lovers - this one's for you!

Baldur's Gate: A Hallo-zine Special was created to celebrate both the BG3 fandom and the spookiest time of year. Zines are a lovely way to showcase people's creative skills, and our head mod Rose wanted to combine that with her long-time love of the horror genre. But she also wanted to make it accessible to everyone, even the squeamish among us, so an idea was born:To ensure everyone can take part, this digital only zine will be split into two seperate parts: Trick / Treat.Trick is for the gross, horror-focused stuff. The body horror, the torture porn (think Saw), making this a way for fans to celebrate the macabre. Whether it's an AU or set during the game's canon, there'll be plenty of dark tales and art to peruse. Perhaps you'll explore a character's dark ending here too?Treat takes a diferent approach. For those who prefer their Halloween celebrations to be a little tamer, this section is all about having fun. Costume parties, teen screams, comedy horrors, ghost stories, campfire tales, maybe some Halloween romance? Some of us like keeping the blood and gore to a minimum, and there's nothing wrong with that! However people like to celebrate, Halloween is such a fun time of year and this zine will hopefully have things to suit all tastes this season.

The mod team will see you now...

Don't be scared! Our mod team might delight in some horror movies from time to time, but they'll be on-hand to help you through the process. If you have any questions, concerns or comments, they'll be here to keep things running as smoothly as possible. Here's who's involved in this project:

FAQs

Can OCs feature in this zine?

Yes, Tavs and Durges are welcome to be included in any stories, art, or VP you create for thie fanzine.

What about villains?

Absolutely! BG3 has some very well written villains and we are excited to showcase some of them throughout this zine. They're perfect for the Trick section.

Will I get paid?

No, this is a volunteer project. Everyone involved in making it is doing this free of charge to make things fair, no one will earn any money from this zine.

Is the zine free or for charity?

Our zine will be supporting Scares that Care, a charity that runs fun, horror-themed fundraising events. You can learn more about them at scaresthatcare.org.

How explicit can Trick get? What are the limitations?

Trick will be divided into two sections: Horror and Extreme Horror, the latter of which will accept dead dove. This section will be clearly marked and the mod team is taking care to ensure the comfort and respect of all contributors. We want as many people to enjoy the horror genre and Halloween season as possible!

I really don't want to see gory stuff. Can I still take part in this?

Yes. Our Discord will have two entirely separate channels so any contributors who don't want to see graphic stuff will not be exposed to it. The two zines will also be released as two separate files so you never have to read Trick at all if you don't want to.

Will there be trigger tags?

Yes, due to the nature of the zine we are imposing mandatory trigger/content tags across pieces so we can flag anything that might be upsetting for people.

Can we submit NSFW stuff to Treat?

Yes, Treat will have a dedicated NSFW section for works that do not contain graphic violence. Treat can have a spooky feel to it, but anything with graphic horror elements will be placed under Trick. We are expecting most of the stuff in Treat's NSFW section to be sexual and erotic in nature, not violent. So if you're a smut writer/artist, you can 100% contribute to this section. Please direct any other questions to @whirlinginroses.bsky.social or @bg3fanzine.bsky.social
